Matariki and Puanga Rising over Mt Taranaki
Story: This is one of my favourite shots from the 2024 morning of Matariki of the Pleiades Star Cluster (Matariki) rising over Mt Taranaki with Orion and Rigel (Puanga) rising on the right of the image. Worth getting up at 3am for I reckon (I got up early to allow for the drive to South Taranaki and to get set up). The bright 'star' to the right of the mountain is Jupiter. The streak in the sky is a Jet plane vapour trail. This year for Matariki there was a bright moon at around 60% illumination which made it more difficult to get the blue reflection nebula colour around Pleiades, but on the positive side it illuminated the foreground beautifully.
